Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you by invitation only?

meow.social is by invitation only because we don't want to be the biggest Fediverse instance. There are other instances on the same theme and we prefer a fair distribution across all of them.

The increase in meow.social's active population also means that maintenance and platform costs increase with the load. We prefer stability rather than quantity. If you have an invitation link from one of our active members, you can join us without any problem!

You can choose your instance on FurryFediverse.org and make your choice based on the instance you think is the best.

For these reasons, we do not respond to invitation requests submitted via our contact form. Thank you for your understanding.

What is your moderation policy?

We have simple rules that everyone can understand. Self-evident rules with a legal basis. Our server is in France, and the owner is in France, so French law applies.

We have a warning system, because anyone can make mistakes. So we don't ban without taking the full measure of the context.

If we discover or receive reports of objectionable content, it is reviewed by a human moderator who will take the time to take appropriate action. Illegal content will be suspended without notice and offending accounts suspended and permanently deleted.

Do you impose rules on content?

We impose restrictions on published content to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all users.

We have clear guidelines prohibiting any content that could be considered offensive, discriminatory, or harmful to an individual or group.

We encourage creativity and artistic expression, but we ask our users to respect standards of decency and not to post inappropriate or offensive content. We allow AI-generated content provided it is clearly identified as such and is placed behind a content warning.

Our moderation team is also available to review reports and take appropriate action if our policies are violated.

Can I report inappropriate behaviour or offensive content?

To report inappropriate content, if you have an account on meow.social, you can use our reporting tools integrated directly into our interface. If you are logged in, you can create a report under each toot.

Our rules set out what is prohibited, and it is also possible to select the reason for reporting on meow.social.

How do you respond to legal requests?

Legal requests must be sent via our contact form with sufficient evidence to enable us to identify you as the owner of the account.

For any requests that are incomplete or too evasive, we will reply in the negative, in compliance with RGPD measures and also to avoid revealing our users' personal data.

Requests to delete accounts can be made via your account on meow.social.

Please note: meow.social can retrieve content from other servers (principle of federation and ActivityPub protocol), and it therefore belongs to the source server. meow.social will not regulate the content of other servers, except in the case of obvious moderation problems or contentious content.

How to delete my account on meow.social?

You can delete your account on meow.social by going to your account settings and clicking on the "Delete account" button. You will be asked to confirm your password and then your account will be deleted.

For specific cases, please contact us.

What should I do if I want to recover my lost account?

If you have lost access to your account, you can request a password reset via the login page. If you have lost access to your email address, you can contact us via our contact form.

Unfortunately, for security reasons, we will not be able to transfer the account to another e-mail address.

If you lose access to your account, and to your means of recovery, the account will remain as it is.

How can I contribute to the development or improvement of the platform?

Our server is self-financed by our users. It's a major advantage: it doesn't cost too much to run our platform, and it's you who keeps us going. You can support us in various ways, by making a one-off or monthly donation.

We also have a monthly transparency report that shows you what donations have been received, where they came from and how much we have spent.

You can support us on Liberapay, Patreon, Ko-fi or PayPal.
